Why Asking for Help Feels so Hard

If you’ve ever been in crisis or the parent of a seriously ill child, you know the feeling — wanting to be strong, to handle it all yourself, to protect your child and family from worry. Asking for help can feel like giving up control.

But here’s the truth: asking for help is one of the bravest things you can do.

Every day, families in Northern Colorado face medical hardships they never expected — long hospital stays, missed work, mounting costs. And too often, they face it in silence.

That’s where The B.A.B.Y. Foundation comes in. We exist to remind families: you don’t have to do this alone.

How to Start the Conversation

If you’re not sure where to begin, here are a few gentle steps:

1. Talk to your child’s care team.

Doctors, nurses, and social workers often know of local nonprofits (like B.A.B.Y.) that provide financial or emotional support.

2. Be honest about your situation.

You don’t need to share every detail — just that the costs and logistics are adding up and you could use some help.

3. Reach out early.

The sooner you connect with support networks, the more options you’ll have — whether it’s grants, travel assistance, or community connections.

4. Remember: you are not a burden.

Your story could be the reason another family learns they’re not alone either.

How The B.A.B.Y. Foundation helps

We provide financial assistance to medically underinsured families right here in Northern Colorado — helping cover costs insurance doesn’t.

That might mean:

  • Paying medical bills that insurance doesn't fully cover.

  • Helping with medical devices like hearing aids or wheelchairs.

  • Covering essential or ongoing treatment expenses.

But more than that, we offer peace of mind — the kind that lets you focus on your child’s healing, not another bill.
