December 9, 2014, is a day that will always be etched in our hearts. On that day, sweet Evangeline “Eva” Marr passed away after a sudden and devastating battle with Influenza A, later identified as H2N3.
Just two days before her passing, Eva had been admitted to the hospital with a high fever and flu-like symptoms — something so many families face during cold and flu season. But what no one could have known was that this virus was silently and aggressively attacking her heart.
In the days before December 9, Eva’s parents did everything right. They sought help from her pediatrician and visited the emergency room multiple times. Each time, they were told it was “just a virus.” But this virus was far more dangerous than anyone realized. In the blink of an eye, Eva’s bright spirit — so full of promise and light — was gone.
Eva was more than a patient or a case. She was a beloved daughter, a cherished friend, and a joyful presence to everyone who knew her.
In the wake of this unimaginable loss, The B.A.B.Y. Foundation was honored to offer a small measure of support to Eva’s family. While nothing can ever fill the space she left behind, we
were able to help ease some of the unexpected financial burdens that come with such a tragedy.
Our hope was to give her family the space to grieve, to heal, and to remember Eva without the added weight of overwhelming expenses.
At The B.A.B.Y. Foundation, families like Eva’s remind us why we do what we do. We are here to lift up our community in its hardest moments — so no family feels alone during times of crisis.
